Soft-sensor integration for information-rich mapping

Overview

A 3D map of the seafloor records geometry. It says nothing about the water and the material around that geometry, which is often what a scientist cares about.

I worked on integrating custom “soft sensor” stickers onto existing underwater vehicles. The stickers are added to vehicles already in service and collect data on chemical properties and other modalities.

The measurements then feed into the existing 3D map generation pipeline. The result is a map that carries more than shape at each point.
